LEH and GOS answer different questions
LEH mode helps you understand limited-entry draw opportunities. Pick a species and a Wildlife Management Unit, and the demo shows matching draw records plus any available LEH zone geometry for that WMU and species.
General Open Seasons mode answers a different question: what open-season rows are associated with this species and WMU? The map keeps the same geographic workflow but replaces draw cards with current GOS season rows from HuntSmart's dataset.
Important: the map is a decision and learning tool, not a legal boundary source. GOS rules can include subzones, special conditions, weapon restrictions, class restrictions, closures, and synopsis updates that are more specific than a WMU fill. Always confirm the current official provincial publications before hunting.
1. Start with the species when you are flexible on location
Selecting a species dims WMUs that do not have matching HuntSmart records. This turns the whole province into a visual shortlist. It is useful when you know what you want to hunt but are still deciding where.
2. Click a WMU when geography matters first
If you already know the area you can realistically hunt, click the WMU. The panel beside the map shows the relevant LEH draw opportunities or GOS season rows. That is the fastest way to move from geography to the underlying hunting data.
3. LEH zones are more specific than the WMU
When HuntSmart has mapped LEH zone geometry for the selected species and WMU, the demo draws those zones in gold. That makes the distinction between the broad WMU and the more specific LEH hunt area visible instead of burying it in a table.
4. Change the basemap when terrain changes the decision
Streets is useful for orientation. Satellite is useful for seeing land cover and access context. Topo and 3D terrain help you understand relief. The embedded guide lets you switch among the same map styles used by the HuntSmart mapping experience.
5. A practical map workflow
- Choose LEH or General Open Seasons.
- Select the species you care about.
- Scan the highlighted WMUs.
- Click a WMU you can realistically hunt.
- Read the draw or season information beside the map.
- Switch layers if terrain or access matters.
- Use the full HuntSmart app when you are ready to compare more opportunities.
